Netflix Reveals Details on ’13 Reasons Why’ Season 2
Netflix show 13 Reasons Why has been the center of much conversation since it’s release. While many love the show, there has been a ton of discussion surrounding its treatment of mental health.
If you are unfamiliar with the show, here’s a quick rundown. The show largely centers around teens Clay Jensen and Hannah Baker. After Baker commits suicide, Jensen finds a box of tapes at his doorstep. The tapes, essentially, detail the bullying, trauma and 13 reasons why Baker chose to end her life.
Being that the show deals with such a sensitive subject, audiences have been especially critical of Hannah’s portrayal. As someone who has (finally) watched the show, I understand where they are coming from. Rather than help Hannah find a way out of her problems, the show focuses on the negative. While I do understand the premise of wanting to bring awareness to the subject matter of the show, it wouldn’t have hurt to show audiences there is also a way out.
If you’re someone that has also watched this show, you’ll know that the ending definitely left some wiggle room. Even though the show focuses heavily on characters Hannah and Clay, supporting characters had intriguing storylines of their own. If you’re wondering or hoping for another season 2, it looks like we are definitely getting one.
Glancing over the “5 reasons why” there will be season 2, I am excited to see storylines develop and look more closely at what Hannah’s classmates went through because of the tapes and her suicide in general.
Per usual, fans of the show were excited at the news of another season, but others… well, you guessed it. Some feel that an additional season is not necessary.
