As politics become more and more dire, celebrities are speaking out against policies with a greater and greater level of detail. In a series of stories that began with Cardi B calling for an end to the government shutdown, so too now speaks out newly nominated Academy Awards best actress hopeful Lady Gaga, in an incredible speech caught on video. At one of her concerts, during a rendition of her Joanne era hit, “Million Reasons”, Lady Gaga stops the song to speak out against Donald Trump’s government shutdown/paycheck hostage situation, saying: “If the fucking president of the United States could please put our government back in business. There are people who live paycheck to paycheck and need their money.”

Lady Gaga then moved on to Mike Pence, whose wife, Karen Pence, has recently taken a job at the Immanuel Christian School, a school which does not allow those who commit homosexual acts to teach or enroll, essentially banning all LGBTQ people. If this doesn’t strike you as shocking, imagine the first lady taking a teaching job at a segregated school in the 1960’s, and you’ll have some idea as to why this is so upsetting to such a vast swath of the American population. Mike Pence has since said that the thing that’s actually immoral is the act of criticizing his wife (ugh), and as a response Lady Gaga called Mike Pence “the worst representation of what it means to be a Christian”, saying:

“And to Mike Pence, who thinks it’s acceptable that his wife work at a school that bans LGBTQ, you are wrong. You say we should not discriminate against Christianity. You are the worst representation of what it means to be a Christian. I am a Christian woman, and what I do know about Christianity is that we bear no prejudice, and everybody is welcome. So you can take all that disgrace, Mr. Pence, and you can look yourself in the mirror, and you’ll find it right there.”
