At this point so many celebrities have sworn to running for president in 2020 that we’ve managed to make a listicle of them. For every Cynthia Nixon, whose socialist philosophies drive her desire to keep lobbyist money out of politics, bring Medicare to the people and legalize abortion, there’s Kanye West who seems to be running for president because he sort of feels like it. We won’t lie, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seems to fall into the latter category with the thud of his namesake. Aside from not giving any policies aside from doing press to show the world he’s a “nice guy”, the Rock won’t be running for president in 2020 against Trump (arguably the one year we would want him to). Why you ask? Why, dagnabit, the guy’s making too many movies!
While doing press for Skyscraper — which is a movie he is filming and not a grand plan for urban development, we hasten to add — the Rock mentions that he is running, but not in 2020, darn it! He just has too many movies to do! Said the Rock:
“Unfortunately I don’t see it happening in 2020. It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills. There’s a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it’s not possible in 2020. I have so much respect for the position. It’s something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn.”
The schedule? Why it’s making movies! This includes a Jungle Cruise movie, a sequel to Jumanji, a Black Adam movie for DC, and the Fast and the Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. So yeah, no presidential run in 2020. Just 2024 where the Rock might beat a well meaning brilliant candidate because he appeared in more movies with them.
I guess he’s not a sex criminal racist celebrity like Trump, at least. Boy, what a low bar we’ve set, huh?
What do you think of The Rock running for president? Do you actually like it? Please tell me why. And tell me why in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
