We’re Still Confused About Corey Feldman’s “Today Show” Performance
It’s nice to know that you can always count on D-list celebrities to make you cringe your face right off.
Corey Feldman, a former child actor from the 80s who starred in “Gremlins” and “The Goonies” (and who I’d barely heard of, so you can be forgiven if you have no idea who he is), appeared on the Today Show last week to promote his new album “Angelic 2 the Core” — and his live performance of his single “Go 4 It” was one of the weirdest, most secondhand-embarrassment-inducing things to go viral in quite some time.
“The whole theme of the album is good vs. evil, heaven vs. hell, that sort of thing,” he said, explaining why his three female backup musicians were dressed in sexy angel costumes. “If you look closely at the artwork on the album, you’ll see that it’s me trying to crawl out of the fiery pit and it’s the angels pulling me out. It kind of all goes along with the concept.”
(The angels are also a part of his weird “charity organization” Corey’s Angels, where he recruits hot young women who are “lost” and helps them “find their dreams” while appearing in public in skimpy outfits, but it’s totally not an escort service, okay?)
He proceeded to gyrate all over the stage performing “Go 4 It,” and his dance moves were … really something else. Kind of a mix between Michael Jackson and Marilyn Manson, if I had to guess.
The internet has been having a freaking field day ever since, needless to say.
Feldman had at least one big supporter, though: pop star P!nk, who tweeted her support and told him to keep his head up.
Mara Wilson had this to say, perhaps out of sympathy for what being a child star can do to your life:
This is hardly the first time Feldman has weirded people out with his performances. Check out his performance of “What Up With Youth” on the Howard Stern Show in 1992, a song that’s supposedly about addressing gang violence and drugs but seems to be more about bad Michael Jackson impressions.
