  • Lin-Manuel Miranda is the mind behind Hamilton and the star of one of the most memorable episodes of Carpool Karaoke. He’s won three Tonys for his work — and he’s also won this week. He’ll be the second host of SNL this season; he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote that appearance; he’s got a new documentary coming out with PBS called Hamilton’s America; AND he’s in a huge voting PSA. Whew.

First, let’s watch his second Wheel of Freestyle with Black Thought on The Tonight Show and marvel at his mind at work:

  • In it, the two exchange verses made up of three random words or phrases. Trotter ends the segment with the line “Shoutout to Olivia Newton John Goodman-uel Miranda.” That’s a pretty great line — part of the reason Lin-Manuel calls Trotter, AKA Black Thought of the Roots, the greatest alive. Miranda’s got lines as well, including “I got an erection today/I can’t wait to choose my vote on election day”.

It’s the second time Miranda’s done the Wheel of Musical Improvisation, and it seems like the random words have gotten a good bit harder.

Miranda also appeared in a video for The Tonight Show’s campaign to get out the vote:

  • Manuel’s not the only one in the video. Also included are the cast of Hamilton as well as politicians from both sides of the aisle. These politicians include Elizabeth Warren, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and both of the last two presidents, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

All of them are continuing the trend this year of pushing the vote. It’s something we only get the chance to do every two years, and it’s important. After all, Miranda reminds us, lots of people fought and died to give you that right, and that’s what Hamilton is all about. So if you’re able to vote, please, go do so.
