  • YouTube’s own Kurt Hugo Schneider stopped by What’s Trending to chat with Shira Lazar and Ethan Newberry about the exciting projects he’s been working on for the 2013 American Music Awards, and to give some shout-outs to fellow homegrown YouTube stars.

As his fans know, Kurt has been working with Coca-Cola to create some awesome music for the AMAs digital pre-show.

“I made a lot of music with things like Coke bottles, and things like bowing over glasses and blowing over bottles,” he says.

“Fans voted on stuff that they liked, and I took it all and I mashed it together and made a little soundtrack, which is going to play during the digital pre-show for the AMAs.”

And he has to give some props to predicted winners for Artist of the Year. “If I had to choose probably Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. This was their year. They were nobodies basically a year ago, and now they’re huge, and they deserve it.”

Speaking of breakout YouTube stars, Kurt also shares his thoughts on the first-ever YouTube Music Awards. “I think there could have been a little more focus on the YouTube community as a whole,” he says. “I think there could’ve been more opportunity to recognize some people who made their careers based on YouTube as a platform itself.” He points to huge artists like Boyce Avenue, Kina Grannis, Lindsey Stirling, and Pentatonix. “They could’ve acknowledged that a little more, but I think it’s a great first step.”

Tune into the American Music Awards and Coca-Cola red carpet pre-show at 2pm PT/5pm ET on November 24, streaming live on Yahoo!, NBC.com, and TheAMAs.com!
