On Saturday, May 30th, the SpaceX Crew Dragon lifted off in Florida, with astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley on board. This is the first time in history that NASA astronauts launched to the space station in a commercial spacecraft. Shortly after the launch, in a media event, the astronauts revealed that a sneaky “stowaway” made its way on board.

“It was not just Doug and I who accomplished the launch here,” said Behnken, “ We do have an Apatosaurus aboard.” Turns out, both astronauts’ sons are huge fans of dinosaurs, and in order to make a special memory, the two astronauts’ families sat down to pick one dinosaur toy that they brought to space.

“We collected up all the dinosaurs between our two houses and ‘Tremor,’ the Apatosaurus, got the vote from the boys to make the trip into space today with us,” said Behnken, as he referred to the idea as a “super cool thing” he did for his sons. This video is now number 24 trending on YouTube, with 105k likes and more than 7000 comments. Many people reacted to the video saying “ that’s so cute they brought the dinosaur toy for their sons,” “the sweetest thing ever.”

In the same video, Behnken and Hurley also shared the new name for the capsule, endeavor, in honor of the shuttle endeavor and SpaceX team’s effort to make this trip happen. The astronaut also did a quick zero-gravity flip as requested by the public. In the next 3 months, Doug and Rob will spend their time at the international space station as they accomplish their mission. Good luck to the astronauts, and their special guest Tremor.  What do you think of the appearance of the dinosaur or the SpaceX Crew Dragon? Comment down below!
