The new CEO of multinational investment bank Goldman Sachs is this guy, David Solomon who moonlights as… DJ D-Sol.

Whaaaa? Let us explain.

Lloyd Blankfein has served as the CEO of Goldman Sachs since 2006. But when he retires this September, he’ll be replaced by David Solomon, who moonlights as an EDM DJ.

It’s really caught the internet’s attention. After all, this guy is an investment banker. You don’t really expect to see him spinning decks or hanging out with Diddy. He recently put out his first official song as DJ D-Sol on YouTube and Spotify – it’s a remix of the classic Fleetwood Mac track “Don’t Stop”, and he’s played some major gigs too.

He’s performed alongside Sirius XM’s Liquid Todd and even played in Miami on Paul Oakenfold Generations World Tour.

His bio on Spotify says his personal mantra is to never lose sight of what you are passionate about. Hopefully he’s passionate about making $24 million a year as Goldman Sachs CEO. Because if he’s not – I can be passionate about that. You know?

On the official Goldman Sachs podcast last September, Solomon talked about his much-discussed hobby and what it’s added to his life, but Solomon really does seem to take his mantra to heart.

He’s made headlines for some of his other hobbies, as well. He apparently does an hour of yoga with his daughter every Sunday, and has an impressive wine collection worth literally millions of dollars.

In fact, in January 2018, Solomon’s assistant was arrested for apparently stealing $1.2 million worth of wine over several years. He apparently stole hundreds of bottles of wine, seven of which were from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti estate, which Solomon paid $133,000 for.

So yeah, compared to spending millions on fine wine, being a DJ is probably a pretty cost-effective hobby.

Turntables, mixers, headphones – you can get pretty good quality stuff for a couple thousand bucks.
