Joe Biden Officiated a Same-Sex Wedding, Won Our Hearts
Vice President, frequent Onion parody target, and meme star Joe Biden gave us all the warm fuzzies this week when he did something no one as powerful as him has ever done before: officiate the beautiful wedding ceremony of two people who happen to be a same-sex couple.
On August 1, 2016, “Diamond” Joe Biden made history. Like everything that happens in 2016, the news was broken to the world via Twitter:
The wedding, between long-time White House staffers Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie, took place in Biden’s house. This is the first time Biden has officiated a wedding, doing so at Mosteller and Mahshie’s request.
The internet loves making fun of Biden. But for once, it mostly had nice things to say about him. Here are some of the tweets responding to Biden’s original post:
Most notable of all was this retweet from Dr. Jill Biden, the Second Lady:
We’ll miss you, Biden family! What do you think? Was this a lovely gesture, or do you hate gays? Let us know in the comments below or @WhatsTrending on Twitter! (But if you actually hate gays, please keep it to yourself. We don’t need any of that.)
