Robert Downey Jr. Walks Out of Interview
Robert Downey Jr. is in the midst of a worldwide media tour promoting the upcoming superhero movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. As part of that tour, he is expected to sit down with interviewers asking softball questions about the movie and his work. What’s it like working with Scarlet Johanson? Boy, that Iron Man suit sure looks like fun to wear. That sort of thing.
But Britain’s Channel 4 reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy went deeper. And his questions eventually got so uncomfortable that Downey got up and walked away.
Guru-Murthy brings up a quote Downey gave to the New York Times back in 2008: “I have a really interesting political point of view, and it’s not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you can’t go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can’t. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics every since.”
Downey appears physically uncomfortable when asked to discuss his history of drug abuse and incarceration.
“Are we promoting a movie?” Downey asks.
Things go from bad to worse when Guru-Murthy brings up Downey’s father and past drug abuse. Downey takes off the mic and walks away.
