Today, Monday, would have been the official kickoff day for Burning Man 2014, the celebration of art, music and personal freedom that takes place late in the summer in North Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. But attendees have shown up to discover the gates closed temporarily, making “Black Rock City” inaccessible.
The official @BurningMan Twitter account declared the site closed throughout the remainder of Monday, and the Burning Man Traffic account advised Burners to remain in Reno to await further instructions.
The “Playa” on which Burning Man is hosted becomes muddy and dangerous to navigate in inclement weather. As of now, it’s anticipated that the ground should dry up by mid-day Tuesday, allowing the event to continue as planned.
