The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premiered last night on CBS, and there were so many great highlights we couldn’t possibly get all of them – but we managed to choose our favorites.
It was really weird seeing Colbert out of his “Colbert Report” character, but he still did a great job. The show opened with a montage of Colbert singing the National Anthem with fans across the country, with a surprise appearance by Jon Stewart at the end.
The special guest was none other than Jeb Bush – you know, the brother of George W. Bush whom Colbert famously roasted at the White House Correspondents’ dinner. Colbert gave Jeb a few tips for his presidential campaign, including “Trumpifying” his responses to reporters’ questions.
Trump was a big topic for the night, because this was the first time since “The Colbert Report” went off the air in December that Colbert has had a chance to cover Trump news.
This was easily the highest rated talk show of the night. Whether Colbert can go on to compete with Jimmy Fallon remains to be seen.
