If you want to get people’s attention, slap some boobs on your issue and BAM! Instant eyeballs. It worked for FEMEN and it’s working for artist Spencer Tunick and the women protesting this year’s Republican National Convention.
This past weekend, Tunick (who’s been doing this kind of thing for years) had 100 women pose naked with Mylar mirrors over their faces. According to Tunick’s website for the event (NSFW), the project is called #EverythingSheSaysMeansEverything, and is meant to both lift up feminine power and protest against the rhetoric of presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump.
From the project synopsis (NSFW):
We want to express the belief that we will rely upon the strength, intuition and wisdom of progressive and enlightened women to find our place in nature and to regain the balance within it. The mirrors communicate that we are a reflection of ourselves, each other, and of, the world that surrounds us.
Republicans, Democrats and all other political parties were welcome to take part reflecting their anger through art against the hateful repressive rhetoric of many in the Republican Party towards women and minorities. Trump and Pence are giving many in America the belief that is OK to hate.
According to the website, over 1,800 women signed up for the protest, but only 100 spaces were available.
