It seems like you can’t swing a dead cat around YouTube without finding a celebrity. There are the big, well-orchestrated rollouts (like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s channel), the celebs who fly a little under the radar (like Iwan Rheon, AKA Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones)… and then there’s this.
Matthew McConaughey, A-list actor, Oscar-winner, and weird noise-maker, has a YouTube channel — an incredibly bizarre one, at that. Before blowing up on Reddit recently, each of his videos had under a thousand views. Two of his videos have been up for nearly two years, to almost no fanfare whatsoever.
So what’s on this channel? There are only six videos, four of them brief vlogs about charities he supports. One, the just keep livin foundation, was founded by McConaughey and “is dedicated to empowering high school students by providing them with the tools to lead active lives and make healthy choices for a better future,” according to their website. Here’s McConaughey trying to raise money for the foundation this past December:
Can’t be mad at a guy for raising money for a good cause. We can, however, poke gentle fun at him for his weird choice of video titles. Every last one of them has a messed up title, indicating that either he uploaded these videos to YouTube himself without knowing anything about YouTube, or that he really needs a new assistant. Three of the six videos are titled “Matthew McConaughey’s video o…”, despite two of them being movie trailers. C’mon, McConaughey. You’re a multi-millionaire. You can pay someone to figure out YouTube for you.
As of this writing, McConaughey has yet to comment on his YouTube channel, which has been dormant for the past two months.
