It’s been a minute since we’ve had a “dude rescues poor little abandoned animal” story here on What’s Trending. There was the feel-good story about that guy who saved an injured baby deer, but that was almost a year ago. If you’re a fan of cute animal rescues, today is your lucky day.
A kitten was spotted on a Russian highway recently. (No one’s entirely sure how it got there — maybe it fell off the back off a truck, or maybe it’s actually an Animagus who Apparated in the wrong spot. Your guess is as good as mine.) Sixteen cars (!) drove over or around it. One man was not ready to become another statistic.
Hold your breath, clench your teeth, and watch this original video of a daring kitten rescue:
Yikes! We sure are glad that video had a happy ending. That could’ve ended horribly about a dozen different times.
Who is this hero, you ask? Russian website Life.ru identified him as Denis Degtyarev of Kaliningrad, and said that the kitten is now being taken care of by one of Degtyarev’s friends (link in Russian). Here’s the only picture of him we could find:
Of course the only picture of a Russian dude is of him holding up a frozen windshield wiper. Bless you, Denis Degtyarev.
What do you think? Are you glad this story has a happy ending, or was it too hard for you to watch a kitten almost get run over? Let us know in the comments or @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
