Is it the same without Stabler? (Credit: NBC)
In all respects, “Law and Order SVU’s” season 12 premiere stuck to the formula that most fans loved, but there was one big noticeable difference: the absence of Detective Elliot Stabler. Actor Christopher Meloni, unable to come to terms with his contract, decided to leave the long running detective series taking the beloved, hot-headed detective character with him.
A series regular since the first episode of the show, his departure changes the game for many “Law and Order: SVU” fans, who took to Twitter to express their outrage. The show explained that Stabler decided to retire after the events of last season’s finale, but his absence from the show was clearly felt online.
To replace his absence, Stephanie March (who played ADA Alexandra Cabot) and Linus Roache (from “Law and Order”) appeared on the first episode, and Diane Neal is expected to reprise her role as ADA Casey Novak (although we’ve always been confused because the two women look quite similar, especially with blonde hair.) Newcomer Kelli Giddish stared as new detective Amanda Rollins, but her performance wasn’t embraced wholeheartedly by Entertainment Weekly.
With the news that Mariska Hargitay will also be lessening her workload on the show, will you still tune in?
