Twitter Reacts to Oakland PD Tear Gas Raids
After the Twitter storm of complaints and accusations against the Oakland Police Department’s actions erupted, authorities issued a press release stating that tear gas was used as a “defense tactic.” A number of outraged people speaking their minds via social media beg to differ.
Twitter lit on fire yesterday when citizens of Oakland, CA began tweeting eye-witness accounts of the Oakland Police Department raiding the Occupy Oakland site multiple times with tear gas, harming a number of protestors who rallied together to show their solidarity of the Occupy Wall Street movement. According to the Bay Area local news station, KTVU, police arrived on the premises early Tuesday morning, arresting “dozens of” demonstrators and subsequently threw rubber bullets and flash-bang tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd.
