Two senators and a plethora of U.S. citizens have taken to Twitter and Facebook to sound off about the TSA this morning. Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), son of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, is being detained by Transportation Security Administration agents in Nashville for refusing to submit to a full body pat-down by airport security.
Paul’s communications director Moira Bagley, @moirabagley, tweeted around 10 a.m., ET, “Just got a call from @senrandpaul. He’s currently being detained by TSA in Nashville.” Paul Sr. subsequently tweeted, “My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville.”
Paul has been a strong opponent of TSA practices, arguing that they’re invasive and “missing the boat on terrorism.” During one of this Texas Straight Talk audio speeches he said, “The press reports are horrifying…ninety-five-year-old women humiliated, children molested, disabled people abused…men and women subjected to unwarranted groping and touching of their most private areas, and involuntary radiation exposure.”
