The Return of Ferris Bueller

    Ferris is back…sort of.

  • Who wants more Ferris Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?

Honda premiered their Ferris Bueller-themed 2.5 minute CR-V commercial on YouTube this morning starring Matthew Broderick. The ad is aiming to capture the hearts of 80’s film lovers everywhere during Sunday’s big game.

But something is a little…odd about this commercial. To stand as a true spoof a few elements are missing. Broderick does not reprise his role as the titular, school-skipping, and nervous-breakdown-for-his-best-friend-Cameron-inducing character from the 1986 John Hughes classic. Instead, he plays himself evading a studio executive.

First, where are the references to Sloan, Cameron, or Ed Rooney? Second, I know that it’s expensive but why a chinese song during a Chinese New Year parade rather than the Beatles’, “Twist and Shout” (won’t Chinese New Year be over tomorrow)? And, are we really supposed to sacrifice a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California for a Honda CR-V?

I don’t want to ruin the commercial for you, though. So, have a look for yourself and tell us what you think.
