Sorkinites, rejoice. The Oscar-winning writer is taking us behind the scenes at a fictional cable news channel as its team members attempt to operate “in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.” Particularly, its head anchor, Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels), receives some nasty political backlash for making bold public remarks, putting his career and reputation on the line.
A master of penning ensemble shows, Sorkin is filling his new HBO series with an eclectic cast, including Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Dev Patel, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Thomas Sadoski, and Sam Waterston, with Jane Fonda in a recurring role. The Newsroom is set to premiere on June 24.
We’ve already seen Sorkin navigate behind-the-scenes political drama in The West Wing and tackle the mayhem of fictional live television in Sports Night and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Are you excited for what’s in store in The Newsroom?
