Popular link-sharing website Reddit has temporarily banned links from several high-profile newssites like TheAtlantic.com, BusinessWeek.com and ScienceDaily.com.
Those hoping to share a link from any of these sites are met with the message: “This domain has been banned for spamming and/or cheating.” The announcement for the website banning was posted last week, and read:
Some domains are not allowed on any part of reddit because they are spammy, malicious, or involved in cheating shenanigans. Attempting to submit a link to one of these domains will now fail with an informative error message.
It appears the move is in respond in part to Jared Keller of The Atlantic, who was banned from Reddit in April after an onslaught of links from the popular D.C.-based magazine. Keller, who is the social media editor of The Atlantic, seemingly violated a cardinal rule of the website, which does not appreciate such a high frequency of posts from a singular source.
What do you think of this? Is this a proper response from Reddit, or are they overreacting? Let us know what you think!
