Microsoft announces launch of Surface tablet series
Microsoft unleashed its response to Apple’s popular iPad on Monday, announcing the release of the Microsoft Surface tablet series during a special event Hollywood, Calif.
The pair of tablets announced feature one that runs on Windows RT, the other on Windows 8. The RT version weighs about 1.5 lbs, 9.3 mm thick with a 10.6 ClearType HD Display screen. The 8 version is a bit heavier at nearly 2 lbs, 13.5 mm thick with the same size screen. Both tablets feature a kickstand.
The RT version includes a microSD slot and a USB 2.0 slot, Micro HD Video slots with a pair of 2×2 MIMO antennae. The 8 version features a slot for microSDXC, USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort video slots and also includes a pair of 2×2 MIMO antennae. No pricing estimates were announced at the event.
