  • As we reported earlier today, Wikipedia is considering joining some of the biggest web sites in the world in going dark to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA). If passed both bills could put online content creators and curators out of business. To show their solidarity for the web, Reddit, Mozilla, MoveOn, Tucows, and all Cheezburger sites, have announced a scheduled blackout for January 18. Many Internet activists are urging Facebook and Google to do the same.

Time is ticking. The people behind the site Web Goes On Strike! are sharing the following message.

On Jan 24th, Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill – PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House – to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity. We need internet companies to follow Reddit’s lead and stand up for the web, as we internet users are doing every day.

  • Here are some thoughts and insights that will hopefully begin to pervade social streams starting now.
