The video is part of Democracy Day, celebrating its first anniversary on Friday after launching in the spring of 2011. Created by Rock the Vote, the day is meant to work as a national effort to promote civic education in high schools, according to its website.
Democracy day is celebrated by the teaching of Democracy Class in more than 1,000 high schools in all 50 states. Some of the events in last year’s Democracy Day included the Secretary of State visiting a school in Northeast Ohio to lead the lecture, a congressman who joined students in a high school in Washington and rap group the New Boyz teaching the class during a three-city tour.
