  • Starbucks has caved to demands to remove its bug-based food dyes, after a recent report found that it used a popular ground up bug to color drinks, such as the Strawberry Frappuccino.

“We fell short of your expectations,” wrote U.S. Starbucks President, Cliff Burrows. “We are reformulating the affected products to assure the highest quality possible.”

  • Come the end of June, bugs are out and will be replaced with lycopene, a tomato-based extract. The original intent was to move away from artificial dies, but the vegan community was outraged with the bug alternative. Now, the new dye will be vegan-friendly and everyone is more than welcome to spend $5 on the cup of ice-cream we call a coffee drink.
