Sony Pictures previewed part of its upcoming film line-up at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with Total Recall. A remake of the 1990 original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the 2012 project presents a tweaked story line about a man in 2084, who finds himself on the run from authorities after discovering a company that implants fake memories into people’s minds. Director Len Wiseman, Colin Farrel, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel were in attendance to speak about the thriller.

    Thinking about the future

Wiseman says that ever since he was a child, he has always dreamed of bringing a future world to life. He says that he’s always been influenced by his collection of sci-fi art.

    Big Shoes to Fill

Farrell plays the film’s protagonist Doug Quaid, and said that there was never a problem trying to fill the void of Arnold’s previous performance of the role. “I didn’t feel the need to fill the size 16, size 18 shoes, whatever Arnie has,” says the actor, joking around.

    Crazy wife syndrome

On-screen, Beckinsale plays Quaid’s wife Lori, who ends up having to hunt him down, while off-screen, the actress is married to director Wiseman. She decides to playfully jab at her husband about him casting her for the role. “I’m still offended that you wanted me for the psycho bitch wife. We’ll have to talk about this when we get home,” says the actress.

    What a trooper

Biel mentions how physical the training was to prepare for the film. She plays a member of the resistance, and sums her part up, saying it was “boxing, boxing, boxing, boxing…and chicken.”

Sony will release Total Recall on August 3, 2012.
