At long last, after teasing it with the sort of ridiculous ramp up usually reserved for high blockbuster movies or baby announcements, Alriana Grande has released the high school movie, YouTube star studded ode that is “Thank U Next”. Titled with words originally crafted as a Tweet in the wake of her break up with Pete Davidson, “Thank U Next”, as reported earlier, references the great high school classics, and along with those, the video’s previews made headline for including a ridiculous amount of celebrity cameos. Cady Herron (of Dynasty fame), Colleen Ballinger (Miranda Sings), Matt Bennett (of Victorious co-star fame), Troye Sivan, original Aaron Samuels Jonathan Bennett, Jennifer Coolidge, Mean Girls co-star Bethany Byrd, and Ariana Grande ex-feud icon Gabi DeMartino.

Together the cast and singer come together to craft a music video that encapsulates where the star has been in the past year, how she is feeling, and where she is going next. It’s a beautiful portrait in the life of a celebrity that the world has been looking at and wondering — how can one person take some much pain and drama in the span of just a few years?

The video hints at this and more. Clueless joins the reference ranks along with 13 Going on 30, Legally Blonde and Mean Girls. Kris Jenner, that famed Kardashian matriarch, even makes a cameo appearance in the Amy Poehler role originally in Mean Girls as Regine George’s mom.

Her relationship with Pete Davidson is reflected most directly in two scenes. In one scene she and Jennifer Coolidge recreate the nail salon scene, and the conversation with the misdirect involving a big dick to a big tooth reminds us of the fabled Big Dick Energy meme that Ariana and Pete’s relationship somehow spawned.

More heartbreaking is a scene, shot after their break up, and possibly referencing all the pain she’s felt as of late, with Ariana Grande walking away from a wedding, the bride’s back turned to her looking like Grande herself, holding a dollhouse. The dollhouse could represent the domestic peaceful life she walked away from when she called off her engagement to the comedian earlier this year.

Additionally, Pete is mentioned by name early in the song when Grande sings:

Thought I’d end up with Sean
But he wasn’t a match
Wrote some songs about Ricky
Now I listen and laugh
Even almost got married
And for Pete, I’m so thankful
Wish I could say, “Thank you” to Malcolm
‘Cause he was an angel

Malcolm is of course a reference to Mac Miller, Ariana Grande’s ex boyfriend who passed away from a drug overdose earlier this year.
