Amidst these trying times of The Black Lives Matter movement, actors and actresses from the crime show world have been encouraged to donate bail funds to people around the world who are protesting for justice against police brutality.

Blue Bloods actor, Griffin Newman, was the first to speak out and start the trend. He took to Twitter and said: “I’m an out-of-work actor who played a detective on two episodes of Blue Bloods almost a decade ago. If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I’ll let you do the math.” He donated $11,000.

Soon after that, Stephanie Beatriz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine donated the same amount, along with Criminal Minds actress, Kirsten Vangsness, who donated $200 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, and $100 to the Brooklyn Bail Fund.

Various twitter threads show that donors go beyond the cast. Even some crew members of the shows are donating, and so are people who have played cops in other smaller productions, and some who just simply enjoy the shows.

Tom Scharpling, Creator of Best Show, added his two cents and explained why donating was necessary, and said “We also need to PAY UP. If you made your living portraying cops as harmless heroes, consider giving money to support what is right and just, to contribute to actual change”.

And last but not least, it was announced that together, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine team was able to donate $100,000 to the National Bail Fund.
