Cameron Dallas tweeted out his mugshot on New Years Eve confirming he was arrested and charged with felony second-degree assault

Cameron Dallas is a Vine star tuned social media mogul who has over 5.7M subscribers. But now he’s getting a lot of attention all over the internet, but probably not in the way he was expecting. On New Years Eve around 5am at a hotel in Aspen, Colorado, Cameron punched another man in the face and broke his nose. Cameron was then taken into custody and was released on a $5,000 bail.

Though Cameron, like many successful people caught committing a crime and completely unused to the normal consequence most people on Earth face, seems to think he was in the right, posting the photo himself with the caption: “Unfortunately, sometimes in life you find yourself in a situation where you have to protect yourself and the people you care about. Have a safe and happy New Year. 2019 is going to be an amazing one.”

Any more details of the night are few and far between, though Cameron seems to imply that he was acting out of self defense.

Cameron’s fans are staying by his side, mostly laughing along with the situation. Cameron is scheduled to appear in court on January 22 where a judge will parse through his side of the story and see if it passes muster.

Cameron has been working on transitioning from Vine to mainstream media, documented in his Netflix series Chasing Cameron back in 2016. Despite his insta fame, he recently wiped it clean after signing a deal with Columbia records for his musical comeback. He was also recently tapped as an influencer for Ralph Lauren telling Women’s Wear Daily., saying: “I love traveling for the holidays, going snowboarding and spending time with friends and family. It’s what the holidays are all about. A cashmere sweater or cool hoodie are perfect for hanging out after a day on the mountain.”

Or punching someone in the face… you know, casual.
