VIDEO: Fortnite Cause of 200 Divorces in UK

Could a video game really be causing the U.K. divorce rate to increase? And are video games better than your marriage? If it’s Fortnite, evidently.

Listen, I get it. People love video games. It’s like going to Vegas and putting a quarter in at the slots. And then losing the quarter. So you put in 5,000 more quarters, and so you’ve spent your entire life savings on a slot machine in Vegas. And you’re broke, so your wife divorces you. Only it’s in a game aimed at middle schoolers. I get it.

If you don’t know what Fortnite is you’re probably not watching this video right now. And you probably don’t have internet. Fortnite is a video game that came out July 2017, and people really haven’t stopped talking about. According to the website Divorce Online 200 people filing for divorce in the U.K. listed Fortnite as the reason for the divorce.

Divorce Online, the website who found this information stated “These numbers equate to roughly 5 percent of the 4,665 petitions we have handled since the beginning of the year and as one of the largest filers of divorce petitions in the U.K. is a pretty good indicator,””

So for all we know, there could be more divorces stating Fortnite is the issue. Also this info is only coming from the U.K. It’s very possible that the U.S. has this same problem. After all they say 50% of marriages end in divorce.

Also keep in mind we don’t know if Fortnite is the whole reason for the 5% of these divorces. There could’ve been plenty of issues that arose beforehand and maybe Fortnite was a good excuse to leave the marriage. Or Fortnite was the very last straw. No, fortnite probably was the whole problem.

There’s always been debates about whether or not videos games are bad for your mental health. If they cause people to do bad things. If they are as addictive as drugs and alcohol. Just this year The World Health Organization said that they recognized video game addiction as a mental health problem.

And I think it’s important to note that they’re not saying the game is addictive. It’s people that already have addictive personalities, who can’t seem to stop playing the game.

So is it really Fortnite’s fault? There’s a lot of people that can play videos games for just a few hours at a time. There was a 9 year old girl who was sent to rehab, because she couldn’t stop playing the game and wouldn’t go to the bathroom when she needed to go. And evidently there’s also parents who are paying up to $20 an hour for Fortnite trainers. To help their kids get better at Fortnite.

Soon we’ll all just be wearing goggles 24/7 watching and living in virtual reality fortnite, where there are no marriages or divorces.

So what do you think? Do you think Fortnite is to blame? Would you divorce someone for playing the game too much? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending
