Justin Bieber and Haley Baldwin, the celebrity couple who married in September opened up to Vogue Magazine. about sex, religion and their whirlwind romance. “The thing is, marriage is very hard. That is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard,” Hailey told Vogue.

The couple went on to explain how they are working in their marriage to both be a happy couple, and to help Justin heal from his past. “There were times when my security was coming in late at night to check my pulse and see if I was still breathing,” Justin said about his drug use.

The singer turned to substances as he got older and recognized the way people used him. “I’ve struggled with the feeling that people are using me or aren’t really there for me… It’s been difficult for me even to trust Hailey,” he explained. The singer opened up about how the fame got to his ego, which caused him to make immoral decisions.

“I started really feeling myself too much. People love me, I’m the sh*t—that’s honestly what I thought. I got very arrogant and cocky. I was wearing sunglasses inside.”

These questionable decisions have even made him feel like he can’t trust himself.

“One of the big things for me is trusting myself. I’ve made some bad decisions personally, and in relationships. Those mistakes have affected my confidence in my judgment.”

Since he and Hailey have been married, Justin has decided to take a break from music to focus on “character stuff.” “I just needed some time to evaluate myself: who I am, what I want out of my life, my relationships, who I want to be—stuff that when you’re so immersed in the music business you kind of lose sight of.”

Although the two were first romantically linked in 2014, the couple’s engagement seemed fast.

“Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through. Fizzled would not be the right word—it was more like a very dramatic excommunication. There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out,” Hailey said of their falling out. That was in 2016. 2 years later, in June 2018, they were spotted together again in Miami.

12 weeks into their rekindling, they were married in a New York courthouse.

Hailey described the first few weeks of their marriage as “lonely” blaming a lot of her insecurity on how much people were rooting for them to fail. Said Hailey, “I prayed to feel peace about the decision, and that’s where I landed. I love him very much. I have loved him for a long time.”

Many people believed the marriage happened so fast because the couple wanted to have sex. When they reconnected in June, Justin was 1 year into a “self-imposed tenure of celibacy.” “I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth… I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way,” he said.

While they admit sex was a part of their reason for eloping so quickly, Justin stressed it’s really all love. “With the lifestyle I live, everything is so uncertain. I need one thing that’s certain. And that is my baby boo,” he said of Hailey. “When I saw her last June, I just forgot how much I loved her and how much I missed her and how much of a positive impact she made on my life. I was like, Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.”

Hailey agreed saying “We’re coming from a really genuine place. But we’re two young people who are learning as we go.””We’re going to change a lot. But we’re committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes. That’s how I look at it. At the end of the day, too, he’s my best friend. I never get sick of him.”
