Dreads on a white guy? is it cool as all hell, or gross cultural appropriation. Look, I’ve got my feelings about it, and by the language I chose in this entry, you can probably guess pretty easily what they are, but now we have an all new chance to discuss this issue (lucky us!) afer Zac Efron posted a photo of himself wearing those locks we all seem to dread on a white guy (we’re talking dreadlocks), with the caption “just for fun”.
Many claimed Efron’s new look was culturally appropriation. Dreadlocks are primarily worn by people of color so Efron was called “racially insensitive. Other commenters have defended the actor saying “who cares how someone does their hair. Kim Kardashian recently faced similar backlash for wearing Fulani Braids, so this is an ongoing conversation.
