  • We all do dumb things in school — five finger fillet with pencils, bloody knuckles, eating tide pods, ditching class, and now, evidently, the deodorant challenge. Just another challenge that is dangerous and truly gross.

The deodorant challenge gained lots of popularity in May of 2017, but is recently back on people’s radar’s after a mom came out warning people the results of the challenge. Her daughter Ellis attempted it on the playground at school in Southwest England. The challenge isn’t really popular in the U.S. because we don’t really use spray deodorant — mostly gel and stick deodorant, baby! We are so eco-friendly.

So, what is the deodorant challenge? It’s basically taking a bottle of spray deodorant and spraying it on your arm for a very long time. Until… you get 2nd degree burns? That’s right, burns. Chemical burns! You can get burns from other things besides heat, guys.

Eliis’ mother (who we mentioned earlier) is now saying her daughter may need a skin graft from the burns. She said: She [Ellie] still regularly has to see a practice nurse and go to the surgery once a week.” Sounds like a nightmare. Now, it doesn’t appear it was really the daughter’s fault and more the fault of her classmates. Her mom said: “Apparently, when they asked her to put out her arm she did it but she had no idea of the consequences and hadn’t even heard of The Deodorant Challenge before that point.”

Since the incident, Ellis has moved schools but claims the deodorant challenge is still happening just as much there as it did at her old school. And, Ellis isn’t the only person in her school that has wounds from the challenge. Hers, however, may be some of the worst. Her mom said: “Since then other children have asked her what is wrong with her arm and when she has told them, they have then replied that they have also had it done to them and showed her their scars.”

There you have it, folks. First, it was Tide Pods, and now — this. Children have managed to ruin yet another household item.
