Nick Offerman Visits a Pizza Farm
Why bother putting dumb fruits and vegetables in school lunches when you can harvest some wholesome, delicious pizza and fish sticks! And who better to make that point then Nick Offerman, aka Ron Swanson from “Parks and Recreation.”
This hilarious ad from Funny or Die takes us on a trip to the pizza farm, where fresh pizza grows on trees and sloppy joes are watered with Coke – which isn’t that much of a stretch from the actual “ketchup is a vegetable” excuses behind the cheap, unhealthy food we tend to put in school lunches.
The video is a promotion for the American Heart Association’s campaign to protect the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which is up for reauthorization by Congress.
“Before the updates to the nutrition standards set by the 2010 law, many of our nation’s children were served school meals that were loaded with sugar, fat and salt, and lacked fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and dairy and whole grains. In the past few years the healthier standards have led to America’s students eating 16 percent more vegetables and 23 percent more fruit. These standards have also given them healthier food options throughout the school day.”
