The “Bob Ross Challenge” is making a waves on YouTube. In the past few months, Jenna Marbles, Morgan Adams, Liza Koshy, Ryland Adams, and others have tried the famous artist’s tutorials. Watching YouTubers attempt to follow along with these painting tutorials is hilarious on so many different levels. The resulting paintings vary from beautiful to downright awful, but it’s all in good fun!

The painting tutorial videos hosted by Ross were originally featured on his show, The Joy of Painting, which aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994. At the end of each tutorial, viewers marveled at the beautiful mountains, forests, and other landscapes that Ross had created. While the beloved artist and television personality Bob Ross passed away in 1995, he has become an internet sensation and cultural icon since a channel bearing his name joined YouTube in 2011.

Since then, many mid-level, and now more well-known channels have tried their hand at the challenge. While most of these channels are probably doing the challenge for the humor and views, there is another that wants to help a good cause.

Back in August of 2018, Mark Stetson and Micah Sherman launched a web series entitled The Bob Ross Challenge as a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In each of the videos, comedians try their best to give the audience some laughs while they attempt to be as good at painting as Bob Ross. Since then, they have released sixteen videos and counting.

Whatever the purpose of the videos may be, it’s nice to see people celebrating the late painter’s life by recreating his beautiful art! Be sure to check out some of the videos included in this story!
