Live television – anything can happen! Even the dreaded not-knowing-your-live mistake, which old crank and former GM of a shitkicking NFL organization Charley Casserly recently discovered on an NFL Network broadcast.

Casserly was asked what questions teams picking high in the draft should ask about QB Jameis Winston’s off-field issues. For those of you who don’t know sports too well, you should understand that this is a benign and easy-to-answer question. There’s basically no incorrect response. Just be vague as hell like anything on the NFL Network and ESPN and you should be just fine. Here’s a sample answer:

“Well, I think obviously off-field issues are a concern any time you’re bringing a player into your locker room, but especially if you’re taking him with the #1 overall pick and hoping to make him your franchise quarterback. So, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to find out what kind of person he is, what his work ethic is like. They need to meet with Jameis Winston, need to trust that he’s put his past behind him and is willing to work hard for that organization.

    Simple. Done.

Or….you could freak out on the show’s host for not prepping you with that question ahead of time and still not get it even after everyone says “We’re live!” a few times.

It’s okay, Chuck. Even at your age, you’ll still have a great broadcasting career. Look at how people excel after these kinds of flubs!
