Screen Junkies is bringing us a new Honest Trailer. Their long running series profiles the most popular films each year. This time, they’re taking on the disaster that was Independence Day: Resurgence. Last time, they took on the 2016 Ghostbusters, AKA 2016’s other dead franchise cash-in but it made everyone WAY angrier than Resurgence because GIRLS ARE ICKY!
The main takeaway from this video is that Independence Day, as a franchise, did not take advantage of a 20 year sequel gap. The finished film is not up to snuff with the original. I mean, it’s hard to replicate the success of a Will Smith-based film without Will Smith.
Other gripes Screen Junkies have with the film are numerous. These include the lack of charisma, the lack of substance, and the lack of speeches. So, in other words, the lack of Independence Day. Funny stuff as always, SJ!
