A video has gone viral on TikTok of a user saying that the police were called on her by Nickelodeon over a tweet she had made regarding how Jojo Siwa had not been invited to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. @hotgirlbookshelff posted with the caption “Nickelodeon called the cops on me about 20 minutes ago. I wish I was kidding.”

First, she received a call from a New York number and ignored it, but decided to text the number because she was curious. The number responded back saying he was a detective with the NYPD and wanted to ask her some questions over the phone. She was at first very confused because she lived in Seattle and had no idea why an NYPD detective needed to talk with her. Then she found out it was about her Jojo Siwa tweet. She shared screenshots of the texts, with the detective saying “Just the Tweet you sent out earlier today. Like I said you’re not in any trouble they sent this over to me and I just have to look into it.” The tweet has since been deleted but it said “I’m about to burn down the nickelodeon headquarters for not inviting jojo siwa to the kids’ choice awards.”

The Nickelodeon headquarters in Manhattan were the ones to call in the tweet and the NYPD detective proceeded to question her, asking what the meaning of the tweet was, and also if she personally knew Jojo Siwa or perhaps anyone at Nickelodeon. She clarified with him that it was upsetting to see that Jojo had not been invited because she came out as gay last year, and stated how Nickelodeon is homophobic for that. In response to her explanation, the detective laughed, asked if she had any weapons on her person, apologized for the call, and abruptly hung up on her.

The TikTok has garnered almost four million views, with many angered comments such as “Nickelodeon is such a Karen” and “Not Nickelodeon being afraid of stan Twitter.” It’s disappointing to see a children’s company that so many grew up with showing their true colors like this.
