ReSet Going to JAIL for PRANK Video??

Kanghua Ren, aka ReSet, is facing prison time after an Oreo prank gone horribly wrong.

ReSet is a Spanish YouTuber who, at one time, had over 1.3M subscribers, earned through livestreaming Fortnite and engaging in the occasional viral challenge.

But ReSet made headlines in 2017 after a fan challenged him to prank someone by replacing the cream filling in Oreos with… toothpaste. The prank might have been harmless enough, except for the target ReSet chose: a homeless man living on the streets of Barcelona.

After accepting the trick Oreo, the man reacted how anyone would, and ended up vomiting on the sidewalk. ReSet felt bad enough about the incident to give the man 20 Euros and, later on, posted a video of himself spending 48 hours on the streets as an apology.

Even with these gestures, though, the ReSet Oreo prank became so controversial and reviled that it was eventually taken down. In the video, Reset  admits, “Maybe I’ve gone a bit far,” but then decides to add a “positive” spin, commenting: “This will help him clean his teeth. I think he hasn’t cleaned them since he became poor.”

But his Internet audience, not to mention the Spanish police, didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye with ReSet on this one.  After losing many of his subscribers and several tearful apology videos, he was arrested and charged with violating the moral integrity of his victim.

Now, after 2 years of waiting for a verdict, ReSet has finally been sentenced to a staggering 15 months in prison, ordered to pay €20,000 in damages to the victim, and was ordered to shut down his YouTube channel and other social media accounts for the next five years.

ReSet defended his actions, saying he had attempted to make amends and adding “I do things to mount a show: People like what is morbid.” But the judge pointed out that he had monetized nearly €2,000 Euros from his subsequent apology videos, far more than the €20 he paid the man or the €300 he offered his daughter to not press charges.

The judge further declared that the offending video was “a clear and unambiguous act of humiliating content” which caused “physical suffering” to the victim. She said ReSet “humiliated and vexed a vulnerable person, homeless, of a much older age, who does not speak the official languages and has deteriorated due to street life and alcoholism.”

ReSet does not seem too pleased with the verdict, saying in a video: “Do not believe everything the newspapers say. They are not completely false, but they make up the words to make people look bad (in this case, me). What did I do to earn your hatred?”

Social media responses to the verdict are overwhelmingly against ReSet, with posts ranging from “We do not feel sorry for him!” to “He should be forever banned off YouTube.”
