Indie musician Steve Lacy has had a very interesting concert tour over the last month. First, his song “Bad Habits” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and it’s stayed there for the last three weeks). As he’s played his North American tour, fans have been catching videos of odd moments on stage. On Monday, at a show in New Orleans, Lacy went far enough to throw a fan’s disposable camera on the ground onstage.
At the beginning of the tour longtime fans noticed others in the crowd not knowing the second verse to Lacy’s biggest song yet. TikTok user @basicallyimonky captured the moment.

Lacy went on to comment on Instagram about the video.
“…I’m dead. That show looked weak as hell from that video but I was actually good.” he writes saying that the crowd just slipped up on the words.

Another video of the Maryland concert date got over 600k views on TikTok. An unseen young woman shouts during a pause at the show, “Can you say hi to my mom!”. Lacy promptly tells her to be quiet and immediately starts the next song, “Helmet”.

“I know her stomach dropped when he said that,” one person comments.

Lacy continues this mood into the Virginia show. While in the middle of performing “Dark Red”, he starts to speed up his playing. There is a wildly popular Tiktok audio of Dark Red sped up like it’s the chipmunks. Lacy flies through the chorus, says goodbye to the crowd, and jokingly walks off the stage.
The video made by TikTok user @cassavamama has over 9 million views.
“He[s] making it listenable for the TikTok sped-up version fans,” says one commenter.
“oh he’s over ‘Dark Red’ forreal,” comments another.

This all leads to last Monday night when Lacy was performing in New Orleans. Lacy stops in the middle of a song after a fan throws their disposable camera at him.
The venue security hands over the disposable camera to him and Lacy smashes it to pieces on the ground. The audience is in shock and Lacy leaves the stage for a moment.

A second video posted by @ shows Lacy addressing the audience when he comes back on
“Bless her heart though, she still deserves love even though she did something really dumb,” he says after the fan who threw the camera is escorted out by security.
The video of the whole ordeal sparks both positive and negative reactions.

Lacy responds to the situation and all the wild things happening on tour in an Instagram post.
“My show’s been fun as hell! Shoutout to the people not throwing disposable cameras at me and just coming to catch a vibe and connect…” his Instagram caption reads. “I hate that the beauty of the connection I have with so many people in the crowd-gets lost when something negative happens. I don’t believe I owe anyone an apology – maybe I could’ve reacted better? sure. always… I’m a real person with real feelings and real reactions. I’m not a product or a robot.”
