After a month-long absence from YouTube, Technoblade has returned with “I Became the Mayor of Skyblock”. The video got over 800k views and hit #1 on Trending for Gaming four hours after release.

As a YouTuber and streamer with 7.49 million subscribers, Technoblade is a prominent figure within the Minecraft community. He’s primarily known for his Hypixel content and in-game combat skills. Recently, he’s been on the rise due to his role as an anarchist character in the Dream SMP roleplay.

Still, the YouTuber of seven years isn’t free from drama. Some Twitter users have been demanding that Technoblade apologize for comments made in 2015, 2017, and early 2020.

Although these demands died down when Technoblade stopped uploading in May, his return has renewed them. Most seem to be on a Dream SMP update account called @smpupdate.

The Drama

Technoblade came under fire in April of 2021 when @coralcrime (now suspended) made a Twitter thread on comments from 2015, 2017, and 2020. The thread highlighted how Technoblade’s comments included so-called anti-Semitic remarks, jokes about racism, and comments about Wuhan. @coralcrime claimed, “he’s been called out for these since January.”

Although Twitter responses were polarized, YouTube comments and Reddit threads remain in favor of Technoblade. Technoblade has made no official response to the thread. Instead, he has deleted all but one tweet (see below) and privated older videos.

A follow-up thread from @catwithclover1 provided context and a summarization of both sides.

Many minority users are pushing back against the drama. Some claim that the people demanding apologies are weaponizing issues instead of solving them.

Others are posting @smpupdate’s rules and expectations in an attempt to stop the drama.

Technoblade’s Absence

On March 30, 2021, Technoblade tweeted the following:

True to the bit, Technoblade disappeared from the internet in April 2021. His last upload was “I Must Win MrBeast’s $10,000 Refrigerator” on April 4, 2021.

According to a pinned comment on his latest video, Technoblade’s absence was due to health and motivation, not drama.
