When flipping through dating apps, you typically find A) random guy holding fish B) someone you went to high school with or C) a catfish profile.
For influencer, Nivine Jay, she found what looked to be actor, Ben Affleck while flipping through potential matches. After matching with Batman, Jay found herself questioning the actual identity of the profile, because why would Affleck be on a dating app?
When she decided to unmatch out of concern of authenticity, she then received a very personal message from Ben Affleck proving his identity. And she did what everyone in 2021 does, and turned it into a hilarious TikTok with the caption, “Sorry Ben.”
@nivinejay Sorry Ben ???????? #raya #benaffleck #dating #fyp
The unmatch with Nivine did not sit well with Ben Affleck, so he decided to take matters into his own hands and send a video via Instagram DM’s. As seen in the TikTok, Affleck says “Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It’s me.”
Could imagine receiving this from a celebrity? I think I would have fainted.
Mixed Reactions
While some found the video to be hilarious, others questioned if Nivine was cat fishing us along with a deep fake of Ben, and some even found it to be a little creepy.

Shay replied with, “Unpopular opinion he has always given me creeper vibes and this just makes me feel that even more.” Trust me, Shay, you are not alone in that.
Nab wrote, “Why did this scare me instead LOOL.”
Emma also thought the tone of his video was weird with the comment, “Why is this scary low key.” It totally was.
Adnan threw all caution to the wind, saying “You could’ve been with batman himself.”

Dana is SENDING us with this comment regarding Affleck’s strange camera angles writing, “How does a man who has been in front of a camera his whole life not know his angles.” SHE IS NOT WRONG.
Is It Real?
Many are questioning if Ben really sent this Nivine because she unmatched him or even at all. Yes, the video looks 100% real, but so do a lot of deep fakes in 2021. There was also a theory that she paid Ben to film this on the celebrity video app, Cameo, where celebs send custom video messages to fans. While this was a popular theory, it is has already been debunked as Ben does not have a cameo. Nivine has not commented on the authenticity of the video, but for sake of the story, we’ll take her word.
What Is Raya?
If you found yourself questioning what the app, Raya, is, allow me to explain. While us everyday people sign up to Bumble, Tinder, and Hinge for potential love matches, high-profile celebrities have an app all to themselves. According to the app page, Raya is “a private community where people come to connect for dating, networking, and friendship.” To put in layman’s terms, it is for rich celebrities. Not only do you have to submit an application, but you must be recommended by an existing Raya member. It is basically the black amex of dating apps. Celebs rumored to be on the app are Drew Barrymore, Channing Tatum, and Demi Lovato.
So will Ben and Nivine be the new celebrity couple plastered on gossip magazines everywhere? Probably not anytime soon, but we wish them both the best and hope he has forgiven her for the accidental unmatching.
