Earlier today, it was announced from ABC News that Whoopi Goldberg would be suspended for two weeks from hosting “The View.” In a controversial comment, she noted that the Holocaust was not about race, but was about “man’s inhumanity to man.” After receiving controversy from these comments, Goldberg’s suspension was announced, even after her apology.

Goldberg immediately began to trend after these comments, especially with criticism from Jewish people and organizations. According to Variety, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League wrote that “They dehumanized them and used their racist propaganda to justify slaughtering 6 million Jews. Holocaust distortion is dangerous.”
She was wrong and she apologized which is what I love about varying perspectives revealed during discussions.
We would’ve never known that she was misguided or misinformed if those women had been afraid to discuss race and tragic historical events as well as what caused them!— GrayHairedHottie (@EarthSucks1) February 2, 2022
In an episode aired the day after Goldberg’s comments, she admitted her fault, noting that “it is indeed about race, because Hitler and the Nazis considered the Jews to be an inferior race. Now, words matter and mine are no exception. I regret my comments as I said and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people, as they know, and as you all know because I’ve always done that.”
Twitter’s reactions
After the announcement earlier this morning, many had differing opinions. The View has had issues this year, especially in regards to finding a conservative host for the show for the long term. But, some people were divided on the fact that Goldberg was suspended. Throughout the show, many offensive comments have been made and offended different groups of people, which some believe is the point of the show.
I agree with all this, except it seems to me her comments were only misinformed, not offensive per se

Other people, however, believe that there should be repercussions for when someone misspeaks or says something offensive, even when they were not meaning to say anything harmful. Many Twitter users understood that Goldberg was not trying to be offensive, but her comments still represented a misrepresentation of the Holocaust.

Overall, “The View” is a show known for controversy, which is why many believe the show will not be canceled and instead have Goldberg suspended. Though some wish the show would be removed from air, many understand this will probably not be happening.
