If Donald Trump’s popularity after his recent comments about Muslims has you questioning your faith in humanity, let these kind-hearted members of the military cheer you up.

A few weeks ago, mother Melissa Yassini posted the following to Facebook after spending much of the night reassuring her terrified daughter, who had just seen Donald Trump railing against Muslims on the news:

”Sad day in America when I have to comfort my 8 year old child who heard that someone with yellow hair named Trump wanted to kick all Muslims out of America. She had begun collecting all her favorite things in a bag in case the army came to remove us from our homes.”

A few days later Melissa received a message from Army veteran Kerri Peek from Colorado: “Please show this picture of me to your daughter. Tell her I am a Mama too and as a soldier I will protect her from the bad guys.”

And Peek wasn’t the only one. Yassini began to receive messages from military members around the country, with the hashtag #IWillProtectYou – because the military is meant to protect all Americans from all backgrounds.

She later told Upworthy she received about 500 messages from “Christians, atheists, Jews, every walk of life” and that she and Sofia have been given “overwhelming support and love.”
