  • Courtney Friel and Melissa Pamer of KTLA shared the story of the family of Finley Smallwood, a 2-year-old girl in Corona, CA diagnosed with cerebral palsy, who have challenged the internet to support their daughter — by dancing.

The Smallwoods are trying to raise money for their YouCaring crowdfunding campaign by spreading their story as far and wide as possible. Their goal is to raise enough money to help them pay for a selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery for Finley, which could enable her to walk.

Due to her condition, Finley can't walk without the aid of a walker. But that hasn't stopped her from dancing! When her parents saw her dancing to her favorite song, "Better When I'm Dancin'" by Meghan Trainor, they were inspired to launch a website — — aimed at raising awareness of their campaign by getting as many people to record videos of themselves dancing to the song as possible.

The "Dare to Dance" campaign has already attracted some high-profile participants. It launched with this video of firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department shamelessly getting down to Meghan Trainor:

  • The LAFD has challenged New York's Fire Department to put together a dancing video, and KTLA's Courtney Friel has challenged LA mayor Eric Garcetti and LA police chief Charlie Beck.
