In a stunning video posted to Twitter, YouTuber Adam Saleh showed himself being escorted off a Delta flight after a passenger complained about him speaking Arabic to his mother, stating this made him "uncomfortable".
It's a hard to watch video. It's hard to watch his pain but its just as hard to watch everyone sitting there in silence as this goes down.
Delta released a statement on their website here, saying in part "We take all allegations of discrimination seriously and we are gathering all of the facts before jumping to any conclusion. Our culture requires treating everyone with respect. Furthermore, Delta people are trained to and frequently handle conflicts between passengers."
Many fans of Adam Saleh, and just fans of the world not becoming a bigoted nightmare, are protesting Delta with the hashtag #boycottdelta. Many are pointing out that Adam Saleh has made videos of him making people on planes uncomfortable which like— first off, those aren't really prank video if you want to watch one. They seem more like vlogs. Secondly, if his prank was talking in Arabic, it's still the people around him getting upset who are absolutely in the wrong because I'm pretty sure people should be able to speak different languages without people getting mad. Arab people being profiled on planes has been a national problem for ages. Adam Saleh is not the first person to be profiled on a plane, and we would be a better nation starting tomorrow if he was the last.
Hopefully this begins a much needed discussion about profiling on airports, and if nothing else hopefully the ensuing chaos will make Delta employees more careful about how they deal with these kinds of issues.
