If you thought eating detergent pods was the height of the horrific lengths certain kinds of people will go to in order to — I don’t know, is “entertain," the right word? But, in any case, entertain the world by doing something ridiculous that could end up with them in a state of serious peril or injury. One example — a missing 11-year-old in the United Kingdom was eventually found inside an IKEA doing the IKEA challenge. The concept of the challenge? You try to spend 24 hours inside of an IKEA — hiding in the closet usually as you wait for everyone to leave, and then falling asleep on the bed, hiding right before opening, then running away. It’s taken from this — admittedly hypnotically bizarre and brilliant — video of two Swedish YouTubers doing just that.
At IKEA, the safety and security of our customers is one of our highest priorities and we are constantly reviewing our security procedures to better prevent these incidents from happening. We appreciate that people want to create fun experiences with us, but we do not allow this kind of activity to take place in our stores.
So, you hear that kids? Please, please, please don’t hide in IKEAs. You will get lost and then I’ll have to write about it and it will be humiliating for everyone involved.
What do you think? How many teens will get lost sleeping in IKEA closets just based on the fact that I wrote about this? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
