Metalworker Debunks 9/11 “Jet Fuel Melts Steel” Theory

A metalworker at Purgatory Ironworks is sick and tired of the “jet fuel can’t melt steel beams” 9/11 theory, so he decided to fire up his furnace and do something about it.

The conspiracy theory goes like this: Jet fuel burns at 1500 degrees. Steel melts at 2300 degrees or higher. Therefore, the explosion from the crashing planes could not have brought down the Twin Towers in New York City, and 9/11 was an inside job.

“I’m not arguing the facts,” he says. “Jet fuel does in fact burn at 1,500 degrees, steel will start melting – some carbon steels – at 2,300 degrees. But if you hold this up as a reason for conspiracy, you are an idiot.”

He backs up his point by using a piece of structural steel to lift a 250 pound anvil, and then trying the same stunt with an identical piece of steel heated up to about the same temperature of burning jet fuel.

You guessed it: the heated steel bends like a wet noodle. “Your argument is invalid,” he says, tossing the steel rod to the floor. “Get over it. Find a job.”
