Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the 78th birthday of the late Dr. Robert Moog, inventor of the electronic Moog Synthesizer, which has impacted a range of musicians’ records from The Beatles to The Doors to Stevie Wonder.Google reaches a new level of interaction with a literally playable logo that is a virtual representation of a mini-Moog or “mini-Goog.” Using their mouses and keyboards, Google searchers can manipulate the keys and knobs to create, record, and even share their own creations (on Google+, of course).
This honorary doodle is also in part a promotional opportunity for Google’s own web browser. On Google Chrome, the mini-Moog’s sound is generated natively, whereas a Flash plugin is needed for it to work on other browsers.
To commemorate the day, @MoogMusicInc is making its own effort to get #CelebrateBob trending.
