Summary:

  • Guy Newmark from San Pedro, California drove his 1964 Porsche 356C, known as Blu, for over one million miles.

  • Blu was not a trophy but a daily driver that Guy drove everywhere, accumulating over 30,000 miles in a year.

  • Guy’s story of driving Blu for 50 years showcases the quality and durability of the Porsche brand.

The majority sell their cars in the fifth year and do not take a second look. Guy Newmark was from San Pedro, California, who had thought fifty years and one million miles in the same Porsche. His 1964 Porsche 356C, which is famously known as Blu, is one of the most extraordinary automotive narratives in American history. No exotic garage. No collector’s shelf. Only a man, a dark blue Porsche, and an open road that could never get bored.

In 1968, Guy was given a gift of a Porsche 356C in 1964 as a high school graduation. The vehicle was less than 40,000 miles and four years old. Miles were soon accumulated by Guy, and he has been driving it every day for the past 50 years.

Daily Driver

Blu was not a collector object, a trophy. Guy used it to drive to a place of work, to the grocery store, to California, and to the rest of the country, and at times drove more than 30,000 miles in a year. Guy has Blu like a chari wherever he goes, similar to client meetings and signing contracts as a yacht broker.

Guy Newmark made automotive history, having covered over one million miles. This was celebrated by fans and Porsche, which posted the story of Guy and Blu on its YouTube channel. Three out of every four Porsches remain in circulation today.

Engine Story

It is quite impressive when one comes across a vehicle that has gone to one million miles, and that too with only 2 engine rebuilds. Guy had made two rebuilds to the engine of Blu in the course of the trip, the first of them being made at 900,000 miles. Much of the car, such as the deep blue finish, is still virtually the same now.

Still Smiling

Guy greeted Blu with an enormous smile, saying that it had not left since. Inquired as to the future, he broke all expectations by telling them that he could never forget the past because nothing was going to change.

In 1964, Guy purchased Blu for less than five thousand dollars by buying it from the original owner, who had purchased it directly at the Porsche factory when on vacation. It was introduced to America at the tender age of eight weeks old with less than a thousand miles and has been with the Newmark ever since.

Porsche Quality

The quality of Porsche is depicted by that of Guy. Porsche first came to be known in 1948 with the 356, which was the first vehicle to be produced by the company. Guy is convinced that the 356 is built with limited amounts of precision, put together properly, and with durability in mind.

Canadian Brother

Bill MacEachern is a Canadian entrepreneur who purchased a new 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo and used it in his day-to-day life for close to 50 years. His mileage had topped 800,000 miles, and he is aiming at one million, making it the highest mileage Porsche 911 in the world so far.

Collector Warning

Guy and Bill drove their Porsches rather than lock them away. According to Bill MacEachern, the real worth of Porsche ownership is not stores of money, but miles and memories. A garage car is not being maintained, but is being wasted.

The story of Guy Newmark is the story of giving 100 percent to your love in spite of it. Findings: Blu is still running, Guy is driving, and the odometer is spinning as the 1964 Porsche dreams on a highway in California.
